Tuesday, July 10, 2007

Its been some time that ,I posted my thoughts on my spot.Got suddenly transferred to Jaipur. Here ,I was comfortable coccooned in my small office and was enjoying the Magical and Mstical moods of South Asian Monsoon. And,suddenly you are thrown away to a place, hot ,swarming with people and flies with squalor all over the place. This was indeed shocking,I was back in Jaipur after a sojourn of 4 years and I had removed the traces of thought of this place from my mind. After the initial shock,( also due to unrelenting inacceptance to move away from verdant Kerala)I got sort of accustomed to the ways and vagaries of life.Threw myself into the groove of recruitment and planning of the business for the current financial year.I sincerely hope that,I will get some reprieve, once I leave this place.Except for the change in the visage of the residential layout outside the walled city, nothing has changed in Jaipur. You can feel the contrast co-exist with in the city.

Tirunelli saga

Friday went to Calicut, discussed with partner ,that it is time to take our business to the next level.
Also, discussed the requirement of the additional capex to fund the expansion.
By afternoon ,we are free and went to a pub,by evening ,a bandh was declared for the next day,in Calicut.

We thought that the entire saturday will be ruined by remaining closetted in the hotel room.
That's when we thought, why not drive to Waynad. We took to the wheels by 6 p.m. and reached
Manathavady by 9.30.p.m with brief stopover for refil of drinks. The Waynad churum was bathed with dense white mist. When we reached there, the ten day Mananthvady festival at Valliyoorkkavu temple
had just begun. Its an incredible spectacle amidst the verdant wilderness of Waynad.
After downing some drinks we took a hotel room in Manathavady.

There was a time ,atleast Waynad was free from mosquitos, but was home to Cricket and termites and other
insects, but now even this sylvan habitat is not spared, that's,the price you pay for globalisation.

Saturday, we got up early and then drove up to Tirunelli Perumal temple, where people converge for conducting the last rites of the departed souls and annual,"Balitharpanam".

The temple with deity ,obviously,"Maha Vishnu" is made by placing rough cut granites on pillars without any mortar or mud,and Right in the dense forests of Wayanad, Kerala, as a branch of the Sahyadri ranges bordering Karnataka, nestled on the foots of Brahmagiri hill. From here a steep flight of steps leads one to the Papanasini which is believed to have its source in the Brahmagiri and which then flows on into the Kalindi. The Padmapurana and other legends mention that Parasurama and Jamadgni held expiatory rites here.

The legend regarding the origin of the temple is that Brahma, traversing the world on his swan was drawn by the beauty of the Sahyadris. He landed on a hill which later became the Brahmagiri. Walking down the slopes the heady fragrances, sounds and colours of nature exhilarated him. Suddenly his attention was drawn to an exquisite idol resting on an unusual amla tree. His inner vision saw the idol to be that of Vishnu and the area as Vishnuloka. A disembodied voice confirmed his insight and told him to install the idol. With the aid of the Devas, he installed the idol and called it the Sahyamalaka Kshetra. Pleased with Brahma's efforts, Vishnu granted a boon. Brahma requested him to abide eternally in this place and offer salvation to tortured souls.
The place is also called" Dakshin Kaasi"

The place embodies a calmness, where you lose the sense of time and would like to sit on one of the many boulders and let lose your stress, deeply inhaling the fresh and pure air.

Here, Gandhigramam shops offer handicrafts, spices, essential oils, and tea and coffee made by aadivasis.

We stayed, for 3 hours there and drove back to Calicut the same day.
